What is this course about?
The resolution of many process problems lies not in the development of a fix based on the symptoms of the problem, but in drilling down through to find the root causes of the problem and correcting or error proofing the root cause. Root cause analysis (RCA) is a key building block in an organisation’s continuous improvement journey. This online RCA course is made up of two 4-hour live webinars. The software application used is Microsoft Excel. The course is interactive in nature and case studies and data sets, preferably the organization’s own, are used throughout.
All Lean Ireland online tutors are certified Lean Six Sigma black belts with several years’ experience in facilitating online workshops in a wide variety of sectors.

What Will You Achieve?
Upon completion of this course, you will:
- Be enabled to use a variety of non-statistical tools appropriate for individual and team-based root cause analysis;
- Understand how to use Excel to establish data patterns, summarise data tables, and establish tables of descriptive statistics for data sets;
- Be enabled to interrogate the data using statistical tools to establish patterns and correlation between variables, and
- Understand when and where to use each tool.
You will also have your own soft copy record of the course presentation material for future use.
All participants receive a certificate of completion.

Prior to becoming a course facilitator, I was involved in the management of supply chain and business process improvement activities. After training as a lean six sigma black belt at Dell Computer Corporation, I left in 2001 to establish Lean Ireland. I am a science graduate, a certified ASQ lean six sigma black belt and hold a first class honours masters’ degree in supply chain management.
