What is this course about?
Lean six sigma enables all employees to work in collaborative teams to improve process performance and increase customer satisfaction. The black belt (BB) is a full-time six sigma programme member who has responsibility for selecting & prioritising projects, leading projects, deploying project learnings and training and mentoring green belts. The BB is trained in advanced project management and statistical analysis tools. The BB is expected to contribute between €250K and €1M to the company’s operating profit each year by undertaking process improvement projects that lead to enhanced customer satisfaction.
The course consists of a series of facilitated online live webinars, interactive exercises, assignments and project work. Your knowledge builds in a step wise fashion and you will be supported and encouraged throughout your learning journey. This course is offered on an in-company basis only i.e. all candidates are from the one organisation. The course content is customised to meet the organisation’s need, at no extra cost. All Lean Ireland online tutors are certified Lean Six Sigma black belts with several years’ experience in facilitating workshops in a wide variety of sectors.
The software application used is Minitab. The course is also offered in SAS JMP if required.
Certification is by an internationally reknowned scertifying body such as the American Society for Quality (ASQ) and the International Association for Six Sigma Certification (IASSC).

BB candidates are selected for training on the basis of their ability to lead cross functional teams to be successful problem solvers, and their potential to progress to higher levels within the organisation. In general, they are dynamic “can do” personnel. The full-time BB role is often a temporary one of 2-4 years duration.

The webinars will be hosted on a secure learning management system. In advance of course commencement, participants will be enrolled in the secure group.

How Will You Be Supported?
During this online course, you will
- be able to listen to and interact with the online course tutor and other participants
- be able to ask questions and complete online quizzes to self-assess your understanding of the topic
- be able to download all online lean course recorded webinars for your own future use
- be able to download soft copy presentation files, with data sets and case studies, for your own future use
- be provided with tips for success in a multiple choice CLSSBB examination, and
- undertake a mock CLSSBB examination.
In addition to the workshops, completion of continuous assessment online assignments will prepare candidates for the public ASQ or IASSC examinations. The examinations are proctored online events.
In parallel to the academic studies, candidates are required to work on a project within the organisation. A project certification review event is scheduled on the completion of each candidate’s project.

Over many years as a trainer and workshop facilitator, it has been a pleasure and privilege to enable teams in a variety of organizations to serve their customers better, and grow their businesses. My lean six sigma consulting engagements with clients and practical workshops have yielded benefits in the order of several €millions per year to client companies.
Prior to becoming a course facilitator, I was involved in the management of supply chain and business process improvement activities. After training as a lean six sigma black belt at Dell Computer Corporation, I left in 2001 to establish Lean Ireland. I am a science graduate, a certified ASQ lean six sigma black belt and hold a first class honours masters’ degree in supply chain management.
